Dream Jobs
My worst job would be working as a maid of some sort or in a cleaning service. If I already struggle with keeping my apartment tidy, I cannot fathom having to do that as a full time (or even part-time) job. Furthermore, cleaning jobs always involve sweeping and mopping the floor and deep-cleaning the bathroom, which are the tasks that I hate to do the most in my personal life. I would rather do any other job in the world than work as a cleaning lady.
When talking with my grandparents about the job conditions of their time, I realised that we benefit from many improvements nowadays. To contextualise a bit, my grandparents' careers took place after the Spanish civil war, where Francoism was in full swing and Spain was invaded by poverty and opression. According to them, working conditions were quite precarious: manual workers (in the fields or in the cities) did not wear a helmet or gloves all the time, and they did not have any kind of insurance that covered accidents. Additionally, many of them did not have neither a stablished working schedule nor a contract, and some worked from surise to sunset. Most importantly, there were no trade unions or employment offices (at least not until democracy came). The only pro we could think of was that employers did not ask for years of experience, one usally got the job if they were a good fit for it. Nowadays if you do not fit the minimum experience criteria, you are not going to get hired even if you are the best candidate. Nevertheless, it was a very tough time and we concluded that workers of our centiry enjoy many advantages that were not available in their time.
This week, to improve my English, I have done some of the extra exercises linked in our professor's website in order to grasp the contents we have studied so far even better. Also, I went to see the movie "A Star is Born" on Monday night, because every Monday Centrofama's theatre screens the original version (in English with Spanish subtitles). I absolutely loved the film, and I even teared up three times, which is not like me at all! I truly recommend it and I would see it again myself.
