Colours

This week has been all about colour, and given that I found the topic very interesting, I took it into my own hands and searched the web to find out its other meanings. The article I chose focuses on home decor, a topic which fascinates me. It is called Room Colour and How it Affects Your Mood (https://freshome.com/room-color-and-how-it-affects-your-mood/ last accessed 18/12/2018)I agree with the information included in the article and found it really useful. Coming from a home whose walls are painted entirely white, it was interesting to learn about other potential options and how they would change the emotions that my apartment sparks. However, I would not dare to paint my living room walls red, no matter the high level of energy it seemingly stimulates, since it seems too daring and almost the opposite of stylish. By contrast, yellow is just as bright and vibrant of a colour as red, but it seems like a less risky choice. Additionally, I agree with the article's emphasis on blue: it can be a relaxing colour but also chilly, so balancing it out with warm hues is a smart idea. Lastly, the article highlights how different tones of the same colour, namely a lighter or darker one, can drastically change the mood it projects, which was very fascinating.

Next, I am going to attempt to describe one of the most famous Van Gogh paintings, Starry Night, whose scene is clearly dominated by colour. The blue hues of the sky and the tiny town below evoke melancholy, stillness and solitude. The towering mountain or castle's darkness gives the painting more depth and mysteriousness. Also, the contrast of the intense blue night against the bright yellow stars elevate the painting and make it more pleasing. Moreover, the stars' large, prominent size, which makes them look almost like suns, as well as the white light they give off  stands out against the deep sky and gives the painting a magical aura. The whimsical atmosphere is enhanced by the flowing gusts of wind, traced in modern and broad lines.

To improve my English this week, I was finally able to see the film Bohemian Rhapsody in original score! I loved it, and it was definitely worth the wait, one month and a half, since I did not want to watch it if it was not in VOSE. I have also made my way through the middle of 1984 and have started a word document to write down all of the new words I have learned from the book and our course material.
