All eyes on you: Being in the public eye

To be or not to be in the public eye?

As a person who doesn't like being the centre of attention, I can assure you that I wouldn't like to be in the public eye. In the following text, I will illustrate my reasoning.

First of all, I would have no privacy nor peace. Each and every holiday or time off would be invaded with paparazzi swarming about, taking pictures and recording my every move. Whether they camp outside my house get a sneak peek of my daily life or snap pictures of my figure while I'm having a nice break at the beach, it sounds horrific and would deeply disturbs my peace of mind. Twisting it even more, I might even have to deal with stalkers that follow me around or insane people that are obsessed with me and are very threatening. I'd rather keep my treasured privacy, which is essential in order to maintain a good quality of life.

Secondly, I would be bombarded with constant criticism and speculation. Everyone will have an opinion about me, and it would be hard to take it all in. If you aren't strong enough and develop a thick skin, the constant feedback (especially the negative kind) will definitely get to you and perhaps even cause depression or anxiety. I know myself, and being analysed continually would certainly take a toll on my confidence and overall happiness.

Finally, and in relation to the second reason, decision-making would stress me out, in general. Since my every move is broadcasted and closely discussed, I would become too stressed to do anything freely. I would cease to act naturally and do things in a carefree fashion. Improvising won't even be part of my vocabulary! All in all, and maybe even subconsciously, I would prioritise the option that would be better viewed over what I actually want to do.

Enjoying life as a 'nobody':

I can take silly pictures without worrying about them ending up in the front page of a gossip magazine.

I can calmly spend a day at the beach without being scrutinised, especially about what society views as imperfections.

I can go out and not be viewed as a bad role model regarding a younger audience, and I also don't have to look presentable, I can go out with a bare face without being judged.
