Reports and Proposals

Below are two examples of a report and a proposal. I am going to be analysing them and stating how they differ from each other.

Proposal

In this proposal we can see that there are headings for each paragraph. Of course, there is an introduction showcasing the aim of the proposal, followed by some background information on the problem. Then, the needs of the students are explained. In the last section, bullet points are used to display the actions that they would like to be taken.

I would like to say that this proposal lacks some details to make it better:  it should back up the suggestions with arguments and facts, and it should also show emotions such as empathy and awareness of the reader's position and their problems.

In this report we can also see that there are headings separating each paragraph. There is an introductory paragraph in the beginning stating what it is going to be about (the purpose of the report), and it then dives into two aspects of the new job: working conditions and future training. This report does a couple things wrong: it is not impersonal and it lacks more advanced terms to make it a bit more professional or formal.

Lastly, we will see their differences. They differ from each other on the fact that the proposal is actually looking for something to be done instead of just giving details on certain situations, like the report does. Both are formal. In summary, current situations are explored in reports and recommendations for future actions are given in proposals.

To improve my English this week, I have seen the film A Clockwork Orange in original score. As you can probably tell by now, I am quite fond of watching films in English to practice the language. It was quite a tough movie to watch, but it is a classic by a well-known director. Thus, it is essential for those of us who are trying to educate ourselves on cinematography and cinema in general. I have also started to read George Orwell's 1984, in English. I am going slow but steady, and so far so good.
